after getting inspired from a NW Bead Society meeting, where Maggie Maggio spoke, I went off to the Ranch in Snohomish and played with color and technique.
The picture at the right is of a "pod" about 4 inches longs, the colors aren't quite looking right on my monitor but.... It's using a technique called "watercolor" in polymer clay, as described by Maggie on her website
This piece is mostly mokume gane, again, in polymer, with a little bit of other colors collaged on top.
Using the classic switchplate as a place to practice, the above is another example of the "watercolor" technique, which has nothing to do with watercolor, but the collage of pieces of clay that have a watercolor quality to the colors.
One of the things I am playing with is using what Maggie calls "mud" as a background. if you mix enough colors together, they form a muddy color. However, it turns out the muddy colors serve a purpose of setting off other colors as well as evoking very natural umbers, ochres, dusky purples, etc.
more to come....
